| Artist Watch | Vera Blue

Our first artist watch features Australia’s very own Vera Blue. If you’re a local you may remember her face from The Voice Australia where she finished third. She hasn’t always been known as her alias Vera Blue, releasing an EP under her real name, Celia Pavey back in 2014.

After releasing her first EP titled ‘bodies’, Pavey solidified herself as an up and coming artist by releasing a different and soothing sound that broke away from the natural pop scene. Most notably tracks like ‘Red’ and ‘Bodies’ had such rich and haunting lyrics that if you haven’t heard them already, we feel for you.

It was in 2015 that Pavey decided to adopt a new name ,Vera Blue. With such a seductive and old school title the transformation from Celia Pavey to Vera Blue was immediate. Blue’s first official EP under her new alias saw the creation of ‘Fingertips’.

The combination of subtle beats and Blue’s angelic tone was always going to end with great things. The first single ‘Hold’ shows just how much Blue has evolved since her time on The Voice. With following tracks such as ‘Settle’ and ‘Fingertips’, Blue has created a nice little niche for herself amongst the Australian alternative scene.

She has since been featured on Triple J’s prestigious ‘Like A Version’ segment. If you thought Blue’s vocals were already stellar, her live performance of Jack Garratt’s ‘Breathe Life’ takes it to a whole new level of WOW.

Just recently Blue surprised Splendour in the Grass fans by being a special guest at Flume’s set. Blue took to the stage to voice Flume’s track ‘Never Be Like You’ and we hear she nailed it.

After wrapping up her recent east-coast Fingertips tour, and also supporting Matt Corby on his Australian tour, Blue is again hitting venues across Australia. Tickets are on sale now and selling fast with only a few venues left. The team here at SmithWillowOak recently seen Blue at her Ballarat gig and all we can say is do yourself a favour and go and see Vera Blue live, it will mesmerise you.

We are men and we can listen to Vera Blue if we want to.
